Kevin Tobia, P '12, was recently selected as one of 15 students nationwide to receive the prestigious Mica and Ahmet Ertegun Graduate Scholarship. The scholarship, named for Ahmet Ertegun, the founder of Atlantic Records, and his wife Mica, will cover two years of tuition and living expenses at Oxford University.

Tobia is among the first to receive this scholarship which was established by the Ertegun estate this February with a gift of $41 million to Oxford, the largest gift given to the university specifically for humanities students.

Graduating Rutgers in May with degrees in philosophy, cognitive science and mathematics, Tobia plans to participate in Oxford's two-year BPhil program in philosophy, focusing in normative and applied ethics.

"I'm most excited for the inevitable change in and broadening of my perspective," Tobia says. "Studying philosophy at Oxford is an awesome experience, and it is one that will likely alter my thinking. I am also looking forward to meeting and learning from my international classmates in the Ertegun program, philosophy department, and Oxford University."

Tobia credits Chi Psi for much of what he's been able to accomplish at Rutgers calling his decision to join one of his best.

"Chi Psi certainly prepared me in many ways for this opportunity. In terms of gaining the opportunity, I am indebted to my brothers at Alpha Rho for the support they've given me all throughout college. Chi Psi has also taught me how to balance different aspects of life, and I think this is important in preparing me or anyone for the future."

The former #3 has been extremely active with Alpha Rho. He was instrumental in planning the Alpha's "Fall Classic" Flag Football Tournament fundraiser for the ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia this fall. Tobia, who has played piano for 15 years, has been very active in the Rutgers music community. He has played piano for three musical theater performances, serving as Musical Director for the fall 2010 production of Livingston Theater Company's Wild Party. Along with Jon Sullivan, P '12, he has also worked as a DJ for various campus events such as the Air Force/Army Military Ball and the Alpha Chi Omega Spring Formal."
