It is our difficult responsibility to share with you that the Executive Council of Chi Psi Fraternity has made a decision to move Alpha Epsilon Delta at Northwestern University into dormancy. This decision is a result of a Chi Psi experience propagated in the Alpha that did not conform to expectations, policies, and standards set forth by Chi Psi Fraternity and Northwestern University.

After several unsuccessful attempts to realign the Alpha with Chi Psi values and a positive fraternal experience, the leadership of the Alumni Corporation, in consult with student leaders and NU administrators, endorsed a recommendation for dormancy. Northwestern Chi Psi undergraduates are now considered alumni of the Fraternity, and all pledge class members have been released to pursue other affiliations.

The Central Office has worked with the University to secure housing for the undergraduates living in the Lodge, and the University is working with us to determine an appropriate tenant for the Lodge while the Alpha is closed.

Chi Psi does hope to return to Northwestern soon. We have every ability to be as successful as we have been in the past, and we believe this to be a necessary first step toward realizing that success again. When we return, we will recreate an Alpha that offers an exemplary fraternal experience that honors the rich history of Chi Psi at Northwestern University.

Yours in the Bonds,

Samuel C. Bessey, Eta Delta ’97, #23
