University of Oregon to Honor Ron Peterson, HΔ'49, as 2011 Pioneer Award Recipient

The University of Oregon will honor Eta Delta alumnus Ron Peterson '49 with the 2011 Pioneer Award at the Pioneer Award Gala on Friday, May 13, at the Nines Hotel in Portland, OR.

Awarded annually, the Pioneer Award recognizes individuals who are leaders in business, philanthropy and community service. The award is given to risk-takers, those who have pioneered in advocacy for their business and community.

According to UO President Richard Lariviere, Ron embodies "a pioneering and visionary spirit, taking risks and having the perseverance to create a new path."

This will be the second UO award for Brother Peterson who was awarded the University President's Presidential Medal in 2004, recognizing his service to the university along with his professional and personal leadership.

Peterson earned his degree in accounting from UO in 1949. In 1955, he and his wife Patricia went on to found Peterson Properties, a real estate investment and management firm. Both Ron and Patricia have been greatly involved in a number of philanthropic and community service organizations in the Portland area. These include American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter, Mercy Corps, Portland State University Foundation and William Temple House.

Brother Peterson has also served as District 5100 Governor of Rotary International and is a member of the Charles Lundquist College of Business Inner Circle at the UO and the Arnold Bennett Hall Society.
