Chi Psi’s 174th Annual Convention is in the books, and with fun Brotherhood events, exceptional educational programming and the welcoming of a new Alpha, it proved to be a great week for all. Alpha Nu hosted more than 250 Brothers and guests met at the University of Minnesota for Chi Psi’s annual family reunion.

With several Fraternity leaders completing their terms of service, a number of new Brothers joined the ranks of our national leadership. Bill Bode, ΘΔ ‘01, has completed second three-year term on the Executive Council after joining the Council in 2009. While on the Council, Br. Bode helped lead a number of initiatives and served as Chairman of the Theta Delta Convention Planning Committee for the 169th Annual Convention in Seattle, WA.

Beginning a three-year term on the Executive Council is Doug Buglewicz, Γ ‘96. Br. Buglewicz serves as Chairman for the Program for Excellence Committee and has assisted the Central Office in the development and facilitation of a number of educational programs. As Alpha Gamma Alumni Advisory Board Chairman, he was instrumental in the refounding of Alpha Gamma at Ole Miss. Also joining the Council are Undergraduate Representatives Mathias Whitmeyer, Π ‘16; Charlie Pace, ΠΔ ‘17; John Coffin, AΔ ‘17; Reece Vollmer, ΘΔ ‘17, and Fletcher Ryan, N ‘16. Additionally, James Haltom, Σ ‘03, beginning his third year on the Executive Council, was elected Vice-Chairman.

In addition to these changes in leadership, one of the Convention's most exciting items of business was the granting of Alpha status to the gentlemen of Omicron at the University of Virginia. After months of hard work, this group of exceptional undergraduates will be re-installed in November. Information on the installation ceremony and banquet will be posted at

The Convention’s educational programming was very successful. Through specific tracks for #1s, #4s, Recruitment Chairmen, #34s (New Member Educators) and alumni along with the joint session for all attendees, Spencer Institute programming provided participants with a variety of tools and resources for all areas of operation.

Concluding the first full day of educational programming at the Spencer Institute was the annual Awards Dinner for The Chi Psi Educational Trust, Inc. There, the 2015 scholarships and fellowships were awarded to many of Chi Psi’s most exceptional undergraduates. There, the Brothers from Alpha Rho also presented a photo of Henry E. Bartels, Rho ’45, Psi ’48, in memory of Br. Bartels and in honor of his many contributions to Chi Psi and Alpha Rho.

On Friday evening, Convention goers joined Nu Brothers at the Lodge for a fun and casual fish fry event.

As per usual, the Convention festivities culminated with the traditional banquet on Saturday evening, where several awards were presented. The Goodbody Award went to Alpha Theta Delta, University of Washington. Alpha Omega Delta, George Mason University, received the Founders Trophy, the gentlemen of Alpha Rho Delta, Miami University, were honored with the Thayer Trophy.

Alpha Sigma Delta Brother and former #1 Nick Strelke ‘15 was honored with the Stanley J. Birge Award. The Distinguished Service Award was conferred upon Gary P. Winter, P ’75, Citation 156, and John T. Austell, B ’61, Citation 157. Photos from the Banquet are now available for download here.

In its entirety, the 174th Annual Convention of Chi Psi was a great time for developing greater leadership skills and strengthening the ties of Brotherhood. It was a time to look forward to Chi Psi’s exciting future and celebrate the rich tradition of our illustrious past. Don’t miss next year’s once-in-a-lifetime event celebrating Chi Psi’s 175th Anniversary in Colonial Williamsburg. Plans are already in place to make this Convention in biggest and most exciting in Chi Psi history.

Banquet photos were great. What about the photos taken at the Regional dinners ? Several were taken with the Northeast Alphas.
