Richard KyleLexington, VA • April 18, 2007 — Chi Psi's outgoing #2 (Vice President) at Washington and Lee, Richard Kyle '07, has been awarded the distinguished Fulbright Teaching Assistantship to teach English in Germany.
Kyle's Fulbright is designed to improve German students' English language skills, as well as to expand their knowledge of the United States. Kyle will be placed within a major city in Germany and will become fully integrated into the host community.
Kyle is a natural-born teacher. Throughout middle school and high school he taught on a volunteer basis during weeklong summer camps for elementary students. Also, while a high school student, Kyle frequently tutored his peers in their International Baccalaureate German courses.
"At Washington and Lee, my experience and opportunities to teach expanded drastically," said Kyle.
A European history and German major, he is the assistant to the director of technology education, and has often helped professors to implement technology into their teaching. Three times a year, Kyle helped to coordinate the Faculty Academy, which serves to educate faculty about the benefits of technology in the classroom.
"I am ecstatic about the possibilities that the next year holds for my growth as an individual," said Kyle. " I hope to be a positive ambassador for the United States and to improve my understanding of German society."
Kyle is from Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania, and is the eldest of three brothers. One of his brothers, Peter, is a sophomore at W&L. He enjoys traveling and watching old films. "I look forward  to spending the next year immersed in German culture and exploring Europe," he said.
