How to Cope
If there's one thing we can all do during the COVID-19 pandemic, it's taking care of ourselves and our Brothers. Being socially isolated is difficult in any circumstance, but especially when the future is unclear and when you're used to spending time with colleagues, Brothers, and friends. We encourage everyone to check up on their friends, family members, and Chi Psi Brothers. Encourage any Brother you know to seek digital mental health resources - you never know who is having a harder time than others during the pandemic. Here are some other tips:
- If you know a Brother who needs someone to talk to in private about their mental health, mention the Central Office's BetterHelp partnership. Each Chi Psi undergraduate gets four FREE sessions of BetterHelp digital therapy, which is a confidential, fully licensed, and digital therapy service. Sign up using the email you received from BetterHelp at your school email address or click here. For technical questions, contact Daniel Walker at dwalker@chipsi.org.
- Look to the North American Interfraternity Council (NIC) for their excellent COVID-19 resource page. There's also Phired Up and their cache of free resources, and their blog! And their Social Excellence Project!
- Digitally audit the most popular course in the history of Yale University, The Science of Well-Being - absolutely free! You and some of your Brothers could jump in and do it at the same time.
- Get outdoors. Take care of your physical health, too. Whether it be a daily walk around the neighborhood, a backyard workout, or a simple stretch, getting a little exercise and fresh air is more important than ever. You can try apps like Calm or Headspace for meditation inspiration, if that's your type of self-healing!
