|Chi Psi at Hamilton: Prominent Alumni|
While Chi Psi is a purely social fraternity and secret society, it has produced many men prominent within their fields. The tradition of excellence found in both Hamilton and its Chi Psi chapter has produced a large number of prominent brothers.
U.S. Congressmen, U.S. Ambassadors, corporate presidents and CEOs, state Supreme Court Justices, university presidents, federal judges, an Assistant Secretary of State of the U.S., financiers, U.S. Army Generals, a hit television sitcom producer/star ("Toby” of "The Office”), a Rhodes Scholar, and even a Congressional Medal of Honor winner are among the list of prominent Chi Psis from Hamilton.
Hamilton Chi Psis were key players in the origination of many things of importance to our nation and culture including Arlington National Cemetery, the Humane Society, America’s motor vehicle laws, the investment banking tactic of leveraged buyouts (LBOs), American bankruptcy law, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), and the President’s current legal authority to assassinate terrorist leaders in foreign lands.
But if there is one area in which Hamilton Chi Psis have made contributions beyond those of any other, it would have to be in the arena of diplomacy and international affairs. Hamilton Chi Psis have served as the chief representative of the United States (as Ambassador or Chargé d'Affaires) to ten foreign governments. Of the ten U.S. Ambassadors/Chargé d'Affaires that Hamilton claims as alumni, four are Chi Psis. Hamilton Chi Psi diplomats have helped settle international border disputes, managed key relationships with international coalition war partners, and helped establish the government of a former Soviet Bloc country.
Regardless of the field, it is without doubt that Hamilton Chi Psis have contributed, disproportionate to their actual numbers, to the both nation and to the world.
Below is a list of selected prominent positions held by Hamilton Chi Psi, by the numbers:
