|Alpha Beta Fall 2011 Foundation Report|
Scholarship at Alpha Beta
In 2009, Brother Robert M. Bell, Beta ‘57 bequeathed $25,000 from his estate to the Alpha Beta Foundation for the purpose of continuing the practice of awarding an Alpha Beta Scholarship to incoming Brothers who successfully complete their pledgeship and achieve a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5. While the Alpha's overall GPA is above the all-men's average at USC, there is still much room for improvement. In order to prove Alpha Beta as one of Chi Psi's most academically excellent Alphas, alumni encouragement is vital.
The Alpha Beta Foundation has awarded $14,000 in scholarships since 2008, but we would like to see the program greatly expanded so that we are able to offer substantially greater monetary scholarships to all Brothers who excel academically. We have projected a three-year endowment goal of $75,000+ for the Foundation, but we need your support to reach that goal. Rewards now pay great dividends in the future for Alpha Beta. In subsequent mailings you will be given information on how to continue your support to your young Brothers, which will guarantee the future excellence of Alpha Beta.
At this time in our nation's political climate, now is the time to consider your generous contribution to the Foundation. The Foundation has a 501C3 status, and your contributions are tax deductible. More importantly, though, these young Brothers are a wise investment. Please visit the Lodge sometime, and get to know some of these young men personally. You will be welcomed, and I feel you would be convinced of the great job they are doing for Alpha Beta now and will do as alumni in the future. It is they that eventually must take upon themselves the yoke of responsibility of the continuance and continuity of our Fraternity for the future.
