In January 2011, Alexander Gross, Psi '03, joined the team of an exciting new company seeking to develop a location-based smartphone application to bring meaningful networking opportunities to your fingertips. Pearescope has recently begun its roll out in the New York City area.
Pearescope is now available for NYC-based users to purchase in the Apple app store. Once downloaded and logged in through a Facebook account, Pearescope introduces users to friends of friends that are nearby and using the app while also showing the location of Facebook friends who also use the app. Pearescope is the only app whose GPS technology shows the location of these potential connections in real-time, allowing users to send text messages to connections without leaving the app.
Gross says the great thing about the app is that it shows us the many unknown networking opportunities constantly around us. "You could have a group of
college friends down the block at a bar, and you wouldn't know because you are
behind your desk," he says.
Pearescope was recently showcased at the South by Southwest Interactive festival and has since been written about in the New York Times and Business Insider.
