 John Patrick Landers, Φ '95, of Mill Valley, CA
died 6 December 2011 after a courageous 11-month battle with
lymphoma. He was 38.
Born on August 29,
1973, in Washington, D.C., he grew up in nearby Bethesda, MD. At Hamilton,
he was on the track, basketball, swimming, and rugby teams and was Pledge Whip.
After Hamilton, Patrick moved to San Francisco where he began his
lifelong career with his beloved Giants. He married his wife, Christine
Patterson, on September 20th, 2003 at the Presidio of San Francisco. An
Eagle Scout, Olympic torch bearer for the 1996 Atlanta Games, and marathon
runner, Patrick's adventurous spirit and mischievous grin infected all those
around him. Not just an employee, but a fervid fan of the Giants,
thankfully, he got to celebrate the 2010 World Series Championship with his
adopted city and work family. His love for sports ran second only to his
love and devotion to his family and friends. A proud, loyal, and
loving husband and father, Patrick leaves behind his wife, Christine Patterson
Landers, two sons Aidan (6) and Ty (3) who he loved more than anything; sisters
Mary Margaret Landers and Kathryn Marie Knowles; parents Mary Theresa and John
J. Landers; nieces Emma and Lindsay Nie, his beloved dog, Carter,
and countless friends and family in the US, Canada, and
Ireland.
During his battle with cancer, Patrick demonstrated strength,
courage, bravery, and taught us to to live every moment of life to its fullest.
A memorial service was held in
San Francisco on Tuesday, Dec. 13th at AT&T Park. Joseph Iuorno, MD, Φ '95, was one of the speakers. A memorial Mass will be held in
Washington, DC on January 22, 2012 at St. Anselm's Abbey School.
A non-profit fund is currently being established in Patrick's sons' names to ensure that Aidan and Ty have a bright future. You can find more information at www.loveforlanders.org.
