The Central Office has received and flown the University of Virginia flag in recognition of the most recent national championship at a Chi Psi school. The Brothers of Omicron presented the flag pictured above to the Fraternity in honor of the University of Virginia men's lacrosse team's national championship win.
Earning its fifth national title, Virginia won the 2011 men's lacrosse national championship with a 9-7 win over Maryland. Virginia entered the tournament as a No. 7 seed but fought hard to win the title. The win was especially sweet for the senior class, who have struggled with semifinal losses for the last three years.
The Central Office flies the flag of a host institution that wins a national championship and takes a photo of it and Jeffrey Hall. A digital image is sent to the Alpha and is posted at www.chipsi.org. Alphas in a position to participate should send a 3' x 5' flag to Jeffrey Hall, 45 Rutledge Street, Nashville, Tennessee 37210. Begun in 2010, Alpha Omicron is the fourth to take advantage of this new Chi Psi tradition.
Interesting to note that two Chi Psi-related host institutions (Virginia and Northwestern) won the men's and women's national titles respectively in one sport this year. I wonder when that will happen again? BTW, both defeated Maryland within a few days -- bad week to have been a Terrapins fan!
