Robert Lindsay, KΔ '49, Honored with Westminster Kennel Club's Sensation Award

Robert V. (Rod) Lindsay, KΔ '49, a past president and the longest standing member of the Westminster Kennel Club, has been selected by the club membership to receive Westminster's prestigious Sensation Award.

The Sensation award is named for the club's symbolic Pointer and is given in recognition of a member's contribution to the club, to purebred dogs, and to the sport of showing dogs.

"Rod Lindsay has quietly had a huge impact on the Westminster Kennel Club and the sport of dogs for more than a half century,” said Westminster President Peter R. Van Brunt in announcing the award. "He is a gentleman of class and dignity and we are happy to honor him appropriately for all that he has done.”

Brother Lindsay has been a Westminster member since 1959 and served as president from 1969-1972. He has served as vice president four times, as vice chair of the show committee, and as chief ring steward for many years. He is also a trustee of Westminster Kennel Foundation, which he helped to create.

Lindsay and his wife Nancy were quite active in the dog show world, breeding and showing Basset Hounds and Bloodhounds out of their Lime Tree Kennels in Syosset, NY, for many years. He is a past president and AKC Delegate for the American Bloodhound Club, past president of the Long Island Kennel Club, and past treasurer of the ASPCA.

Avid collectors of dog art and memorabilia, they were involved with the founding of the AKC Museum of the Dog in 1981. Mrs. Lindsay, who passed away in 2008, was a longtime trustee for WKF and also judged Best In Show at Westminster in 1982. Their son, Robert D. Lindsay, is a member of Westminster.

In addition to his work with Westminster, Lindsay has remained a loyal Chi Psi Brother. He wrote an article on Alpha Kappa Delta's history in the most recent issue of The Purple and Gold and will be featured in the upcoming issue for his successful career in finance. A graduate of Yale University, Brother Lindsay was in the banking business for 40 years and retired as president of JP Morgan. His brother, the late John Lindsay, was a past Mayor of New York City.

Brother Lindsay is the third winner of the Sensation Award. Previous honorees were Chester F. Collier in 2007 and William F. Stifel in 2009.
