Chi Psi Gets One Step Closer to Recolonizing at Ole Miss

On Monday, August 16, Chi Psi made great progress toward the goal of recolonizing Alpha Gamma at the University of Mississippi with the demolition of the dormant Alpha’s former lodge. While it is a sad goodbye for many Alpha Gamma alumni, this signifies the beginning of a hopeful future for Chi Psi at Ole Miss.

Demolishing the building is the first step toward Alpha Gamma’s recolonization, solidifying a commitment on behalf of Alpha Gamma alumni to create an environment that will support a successful Alpha in all of its pursuits. Local alumni have already begun extensive fundraising efforts to pay for the construction of a new building that will meet our needs.

One of the oldest fraternities at Ole Miss, Alpha Gamma opened in 1858, and despite its dormancy since 2007, the more than 400 living alumni of the Alpha have remained loyal to both the University and Chi Psi’s efforts in the area. The Alpha Gamma Foundation offers $15,000 in scholarships to members and is the largest of its kind on the Ole Miss campus.

While no official timeline for recolonization has been set, Chi Psi Fraternity intends to return to Ole Miss in the near future. The Lodge had been deemed unsuitable for our needs and renovations were deemed cost-prohibitive so the Fraternity looks at this as an exciting advancement in our efforts in Oxford. When Chi Psi returns to Ole Miss, we will create a fraternal experience congruent with our values, complementing the mission of the institution.
