Central Office Flies University of South Carolina Flag
The Central Office has received and flown the University of South Carolina
flag in recognition of the most recent national championship at a Chi Psi
school. The Brothers of Alpha Beta
presented the flag pictured to the right to the Fraternity in honor of the
University of South Carolina National Championship Baseball Team.
South Carolina’s presence at Jeffrey Hall came shortly after a timely
conversation between Br. Sam Bessey, Executive Director of the Fraternity, and
Br. Julian Emerson, Beta ’80 and Chairman of the Educational Trust. While showing off images of the Duke
University flag flying at the Central Office, Br. Bessey wondered aloud to Br.
Emerson whether the University of South Carolina would ever make it onto the
yardarm at Jeffrey Hall. Br. Emerson’s
reply was "I don’t know…someday.” A week later the University of South Carolina
Baseball Team bested UCLA to clinch the National Championship. As it turns out,
"someday” can sure come quickly. Congratulations
South Carolina!
The Central Office flies the flag of a host institution that wins a national
championship and takes a photo of it and Jeffrey Hall. A digital image is sent
to the Alpha and is posted at http://www.chipsi.org/.
Alphas in a position to participate should send a 3' x 5' flag to Jeffrey Hall,
45 Rutledge Street, Nashville, Tennessee 37210. Begun in 2010, Alpha Beta is
the second to take advantage of this new Chi Psi tradition.
