Greek Week at Rollins is a showcase of the passion and dedication of the school’s Greek Community. This year, Mu Delta was lucky enough to be matched with Sigma Gamma Rho (SGRho) and Non Compis Mentis (NCM) sororities in a fierce competition with four other coed teams. Brothers united at the beginning of the week with one goal: sweep Greek Week with a first place win.
The first day of competition featured a simple ice cream eating contest. While Brothers brought their appetites, the team of five Chi Psis and five women struggled to finish two gallons of ice cream. Fortunately, the team’s third place finish was more motivating than crippling.
Chi Psi’s team competed in the Greek God and Goddess competition on the following day, in which brother Wilson Conroy from Mu Delta and Julie Katz from NCM represented the Alpha’s team. Dressed in royal purple togas, the team dominated this round of the competition with powerful performances. When asked if he felt nervous at all before his performance, Br. Conroy replied, "I thought it was a lot of fun, because I knew there were three guitarists in the talent contest...I don't know, I just had a lot of fun!"
In preparation for Wednesday night's "CAN-struction” competition, Chi Psi contributed $400 to purchase an innumerable amount of non-perishable, canned foods. We were given an hour to construct whatever it wanted; in accordance with this years' 1980s theme, the team’s paid homage to the first Super Mario Brothers game by constructing a castle. A second place victory added more points to the team’s record, and all the canned goods were gathered and contributed to Rollins' annual food drive.
After three great days of competition and excellent attendance and support from all Mu Delta undergraduate Brothers, the team began construction of a wood and Styrofoam boat per the design of Pledge Class President Seth Pierce ('11). The vehicle seated two Brothers and two Sorority women. Mu Delta Brothers, clad in royal purple and gold, lined the shores of Lake Virginia to cheer for Brothers Joel Eley ('10) and Billy Shuigart ('11) toward a second-place finish in the boat race. When asked about the race, Brother Eley replied, "There was a lot of traffic on the water…but we pulled through a solid second place, so we were pretty stoked."
Chi Psi’s team continued its success for the 5K race for The Children's Cancer Foundation at 9 A.M. on Saturday morning. Seth Pierce and Clay Mitchell led the charge and finished first and third respectively among all Greek Runners. This solidified a first-place finish for Chi Psi’s team. For its extraordinary efforts and first place finish, Mu Delta was awarded the Greek Week trophy, which now adorns a mantle in the Lodge.
This great accomplishment is one of many positive changes to the image of Alpha Mu Delta taking place in 2009 - 2010.
