Shared Values and Ideals: Chi Psi and MBA
In 1998, Nate Greene and Jamie Bradshaw met as 5-year-olds
when they played on the same YMCA tee ball team in Nashville, Tennessee. Little did they know it was the beginning of
a lifelong friendship as they continued on as elementary school classmates. In seventh grade, they transitioned to
Montgomery Bell Academy, an all-boys college preparatory school founded in 1867,
and met Paul Brazil. The duo had just
become a trio.
Montgomery Bell Academy, known locally as MBA or "the Hill,”
provides a determined balance among academics, athletics, and fine arts and is
well known for its motto – "Gentleman, Scholar, Athlete.” The school is particularly unique in that it
features a student-run honor system, which sets the tone for the underlying
values of the school.
In 2012, the trio struck out in different directions. Jamie Bradshaw headed north to Cornell
University to play football, Paul Brazil decided to go out west to University
of Colorado, and Nate Greene ventured to Sewanee, the University of the South. Made from the same mold, they each headed
into their new environments to explore, make friends, choose a course of study,
and possibly consider pledging a fraternity...
Good News from The Chi Psi Educational Trust
Phil Lubik, P '14, and his Dream 4 the Kids
The only way to guarantee yourself failure is if you don’t
even try. That was the mindset that we
came into Dream4TK with. We had a good
idea, had the talent to make it possible and just had to follow through and
never give up. Dream4TK is a 1,500 mile bike ride to benefit the Embrace Kids
Foundation, but it started as something intangible. Dream4TK was just a crazy idea that found a
way to do something epic that was able to help others.
The Magic of Humanity - Miller Grant Recipient
My entire life, I have been interested in education
both in the United States and across the world. Both of my parents are
educators, and after graduating high school I decided to take a gap year to
work in three schools in rural Ecuador and eventually started a non-profit
initiative to improve both access to and quality of these schools.
Chi Psi's Historic Extension & Growth
2012-2013 academic year Chi Psi began re-colonization efforts at three schools:
Wesleyan University, Yale University, and the University of Mississippi. At the
172nd Annual Convention hosted by Alpha Upsilon Delta at Wake Forest
University in Winston Salem, NC all three groups petitioned for Alpha status
and were granted their charters by the Convention body. The chartering of three
Alphas in 2013 marks the greatest growth in one year for the fraternity since
1858. This fall the Central Office is conducting initiation ceremonies and
chartering banquets at all three Alphas as we welcome over 120 men into the Bonds.
Alpha Tau Delta Celebrates 50 Years of Brotherhood
On April 10, 2014, Alpha
Tau Delta Brothers will gather to celebrate fifty years of Chi Psi brotherhood
at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. Founded in 1964, Tau Delta has a
founding story unlike most Alphas. In 1961, the 120th Convention
authorized a conditional charter to establish an Alpha at Sewanee, though how
that would happen was yet to be determined.
