Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act - We Need Your Help!!!
As you may know, current legislation restricts the ways in which tax-exempt organizations can allocate their funds.   This legislation prevents tax-free donations from being used to improve general student housing.  This includes fraternity houses and Lodges.  The Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act can change that, and we need your help to make it happen!

In Washington, the Capital Fraternal Caucus is prmoting The Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act (H.R. 643/S. 638).  They have done an amazing job, and now need the assistance of the national Greek community to making sure the bill is passed.  The bill states that a 501(c.)(3) organization will not lose its (c.)(3) tax-exempt status solely because it chooses to make housing and infrastructure grants to organizations (501(c.)(2) or 501(c.)(7) organizations, which should include all existing house corporations for fraternal housing that provide not-for-profit housing to college students. The grant may be used for any purpose that a grant made to build a dormitory at a university could be used for, with the exception of recreational/physical fitness equipment.

What does that mean for you? Alpha foundations will be able to give money to your corporations for physical improvements to the Lodge.  Educational foundations will be able to pay for renovations, remodels, updating fire prevention equipment, etc. with tax-free funds.  Alphas can conduct tax-exempt capital campaigns to benefit the physical Lodge structure.  The opportunities this bill provides are amazing!   Just think of the things your Alpha could do!

How can you help?  Participate in the grass roots effort to help our congressmen and women push this agenda.  It is easy to do.  Sign up at www.fraternalcaucus.net and use the "Contact Congress" option and "Letter Writing Tool" to generate an electronic letter to your representative.  Simply enter your email address to show your congressional representative how important this bill is to you.  It's that easy, and it makes a big difference!

Many other Greek organizations are participating in this campaign.  This interfraternal partnership shows Washington that we need this bill.  It's time for Chi Psi to do its part. Please forward your Brothers to this message and encourage them to write their representative.  A few moments online could make a huge difference for Chi Psi and the national Greek community.
