In addition to the undergraduate scholarships, The Chi Psi Educational Trust awards a number of graduate fellowships annually. Below is a list of all fellowships offered. Click here to proceed to application
The Hank and Nancy Bartels Fellowship
Henry E. Bartels, Rho ’45, Psi ’48, studied two years at Rutgers and then entered the U.S. Navy during WWII to serve as a Naval Aviator. After the War, Brother Bartels completed his undergraduate education at Cornell. The Bartels Fellowship will be awarded annually to two recipients deemed the most outstanding applicants based on their undergraduate academic record, graduate test scores, the level of difficultly involved with their particular fields of study, and service to community and to Chi Psi.
The Jane and Stanley Birge Fellowship
The Jane and Stanley Birge Fellowship was first awarded in 1980. Stanley Birge, Chi '08, Iota '18, was the 14th President of Chi Psi and the 36th recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. Stanley was the personification of Chi Psi, and he and Jane are Chi Psi legends.
The Coleman Burke Fellowship
The Coleman Burke Fellowship was first awarded in 1979. Coleman
Burke, Phi '34, was the 42nd recipient of the Distinguished Service Award and a
devoted Chi Psi. His two sons, father, brother, cousin, uncle, and
brother-in-law are among his Chi Psi relatives.
The Edmund W. Littlefield Fellowship
The Edmund W. Littlefield Fellowship was first awarded in 1980. Brother Littlefield, Gamma Delta '36, became general manager of Utah International in 1958. His management principles are "integrity and sound judgement." He believes management to be the "main ingredient" to successful business.
The Edmund C. Lynch Fellowship
The Edmund C. Lynch Fellowship was first awarded in 1987. Brother Lynch, Kappa Delta '48, is the 89th recipient of the Distinguished Service Award and has served on the Executive Council and the Educational Trust. His personal generosity helped insure the futures of Alpha Iota Delta and Alpha Omicron Delta.
The Charles E. Merrill Fellowship
The Charles E. Merrill Fellowship was first awarded in 1960. Charles E. Merrill, Chi '08, was the tenth President of Chi Psi and the 18th recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. Brother Merrill was the founder of the brokerage house that bears his name and, as President of Chi Psi, led a successful campaign to reopen every Alpha after World War II.
The Peter Paul Miller Educational Travel Grant
In 2000, Brothers Peter P. Miller Jr., Psi '44; Richard S.
Miller, Psi '56; and their sister Elizabeth M. Francis created the Peter Paul
Miller Scholarship to honor their father, Peter Paul Miller, Psi '18. In 2011,
the family chose to repurpose the scholarship as the Peter Paul Miller
Educational Travel Grant. The award is available for both packaged study abroad
programs and those more freeform and unique educational experiences developed
by the participant. Eligible participants must be currently enrolled in an
undergraduate or graduate degree program and must meet the general scholarship
or fellowship requirements held by The Chi Psi Educational Trust, Inc.
Recipients will be asked to prepare an article detailing their experiences
forThe Purple and Gold.

The Douglas M. Young, DDS Fellowship
In 2005 Doug Young, Sigma `55, and his wife Ursula created the Douglas M. Young, DDS Fellowship within The Chi Psi Educational Trust. Brother Young recently retired from a successful dentistry practice in Winston Salem, North Carolina, and was instrumental to the founding of Alpha Upsilon Delta at Wake Forest University. The Young Fellowship is awarded to a Chi Psi who is enrolled in a dental, medical or veterinary graduate program.
